SSCC Meeting Set For March 18

The State Soil Conservation Committee will hold its next meeting on Thursday, March 18, at the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s headquarters, 50 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis. The meeting is open to the public and will focus on soil conservation and water quality programs. Established in 1938, the State Soil Conservation Committee coordinates the activities of Maryland’s 24 soil conservation districts, while advising the Secretary of Agriculture on matters relating to soil and water conservation.  For more information, contact Louise Lawrence, executive secretary, 410-841-5863.

Nutrient Management Update Course Set for March 24

The Maryland Department of Agriculture and University of Maryland Extension will sponsor a Nutrient Management Update course on Wednesday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Frederick Extension Office, 330 Montevue Lane, Frederick.  Topics covered include the latest information on Maryland’s nutrient management regulations, manure spreader calibration, manure ammonium conservation factors, NuMan Pro 3.0 nutrient management software, pre-sidedress soil nitrate testing and corn stalk nitrate testing. This program awards four Maryland Nutrient Management Program continuing education credits. University of Maryland Hosts Alumni Dinner April 14

The Alumni Chapter of the University of Maryland’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will celebrate student and faculty excellence at its 43th annual awards dinner Wednesday, April 14, at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.  All graduating seniors will be guests of the dean and alumni chapter. Ticket prices are $40 for non students and $20 for students.  The night will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction.  Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. followed by awards presentations.  Reservations should be made by April 5 by contacting Gail Yeiser, 301 405 2434 or [email protected].

University of Maryland Open House and Ag Day Event Set for April 24

The University of Maryland’s Open House and Ag Day event will take place Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its College Park campus with agricultural activities and events taking place in the Animal Sciences Courtyard.  The Alumni Chapter of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) will host a welcome back breakfast in collaboration with the Maryland Egg Council starting at 8:30 a.m. for AGNR alumni and friends.
