MCSS Student Focus Group Attends National Session
On November 15th, 2021, members of the Maryland Center for School Safety Student Focus Group (SFG) had the opportunity to speak to the members of the National School Safety Alliance, which included School Safety leaders from across the United States.
SFG members Claire Cabral, Henry Meiser, Emelia Crown, Panagiotis Fafalios, and Lena Fisher participated in a question and answer session, and topics discussed included the student focus group application process, mental health, school climate, preventative measures, and school safety employees.
The MCSS SFG was established in 2020 to encourage the promotion of the student voice in school safety matters throughout Maryland.
“Opportunities like this allow us to spread awareness at the national level, which takes our goal of student advocacy even higher”, said Meiser, who, along with Cabral, serves as a student co-facilitator of this year’s SFG. Now, in its second year, the group is always looking for ways to express the student perspective in the school safety space.
