Meet Special Secretary Jimmy Rhee

Keynote - James Rhee (web).preview

Life has been fast and furious since beginning my service to the State of Maryland as the Special Secretary of the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs. I am honored to have this opportunity to work directly with a wide range of people who support diversity. I believe my work in the public and private sectors has prepared me for this challenge, and I am excited to bring some new ideas to the table.

I am also excited to work with my new colleagues at GOMA. This small but mighty team of professionals is passionate about seeing small, minority- and women-owned businesses succeed, and I know I am going to learn a lot from each them.

With the General Assembly in session, I’ve been spending time in Annapolis meeting the legislators who set the statutes which guide the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Small Business Reserve (SBR) programs. Advocacy is so important to our programs. I hope you are talking with your representatives in Annapolis and sharing your experiences about what is working well and where we need to make improvements.

I think the future is bright for the MBE and SBR programs. I look forward to working with you as we connect small businesses to prime and subcontracting opportunities on State-funded contracts.
