Parole and Probation Manager of the Year key player in violent offender call-in

TOWSON, MD — When Shaun Rutherford started his Parole and Probation career in the academy more than 10 years ago, the top administrators at the Division already knew he was going to be a leader.

They were right.

Today, Rutherford oversees the busy Glen Burnie and Annapolis offices as a Field Supervisor II, and he has  gained the respect of prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and agents alike.

Rutherford this month was named Public Safety Manager of the Year. But he couldn’t tarry long after accepting the award; there was work to do organizing the Anne Arundel County call-in for violent offenders under supervision.

More than 50 offenders under supervision at the call-in heard from Rutherford, along with Anne Arundel County Police Chief Timothy Altomare, county and federal prosecutors, and the FBI. They were offered help with services ranging from insurance to housing.

The idea?  To keep the offenders compliant and help them turn their lives around and stay out of prison.

Parole and Probation had four agents and supervisors, plus Mr. Rutherford, at the most recent call-in.
