J. Michael Zeigler appointed deputy secretary of operations

TOWSON, MD – J. Michael Zeigler, former executive director of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, has been named deputy secretary of operations for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services by Secretary Stephen T. Moyer. The appointment is effective Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016.

Zeigler was selected following a national search. He was the unanimous choice of the candidate review panel.

Zeigler retired from the Maryland State Police as a major after 28 years of service, and formerly served as an instructor at the Maryland State Police Academy, among other positions.

Zeigler holds a Master’s Degree in business administration and has instructed, facilitated, and taught for several colleges, universities, and at the U.S. State Department.

Commenting on his appointment, Deputy Secretary Zeigler said, “I am honored and proud to have been chosen for this leadership position.  I look forward to working with Secretary Moyer to make changes within the department which will ultimately enhance public safety for all Marylanders.”
