In Maryland, anglers under the age of 16 are not required to possess licenses.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung anglers are the environmental stewards of tomorrow,\u201d Fisheries Service Director Dave Blazer said. \u201cWe are launching the <em>16 in 16<\/em> discount program to encourage them to engage and become committed to the future of fishing in Maryland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you are 16 years old at the time of purchase in 2016, you will automatically receive a 50 percent discount on your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/fishing\/fishing-licenses-stamps-saltwater-angler-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\">365-day resident, non-resident, non-tidal or Chesapeake Bay and Coastal fishing license<\/a>. Not included in this discount program: recreational crabbing licenses, trout stamps, short-term licenses and sport boat licenses.<\/p>\n<p>Licenses may be purchased <a href=\"https:\/\/compass.dnr.maryland.gov\/dnrcompassportal\" target=\"_blank\">online<\/a>, through <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/service\/center.asp\" target=\"_blank\">department service centers<\/a> or at most bait and <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr2.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/challenge\/centers.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">tackle shops and outdoor outfitters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While spring has not yet arrived, fishing activities are already underway with biologists <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2016\/02\/05\/spring-trout-stocking-begins-in-maryland-streams-and-lakes\/\" target=\"_blank\">stocking trout<\/a> across the state, yellow perch biting in rivers and lakes, and anglers catching and releasing striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay.<\/p>\n<p>For information on sport fishing and crabbing in Maryland, please consult the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/fishing\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Fishing Guide.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New 16 in 16 Program in Effect through 2016 Now through the end of 2016, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is offering a half-price incentive to 16-year-old anglers purchasing a fishing license for the first time.
