The season remains closed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/deer-management-regions\/\" target=\"_blank\">Region A<\/a>. Hunters who possess a valid Maryland hunting license or are exempt from license requirements may use firearms to harvest sika and white-tailed deer during this time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/71.jpg\" alt=\"Map of Deer management regions A and B\" width=\"416\" height=\"385\" \/>The season is open on Jan. 8 and 9 in all Region B counties, and on Jan. 10 on private lands <strong>only<\/strong> in Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Queen Anne\u2019s, Somerset, St. Mary\u2019s, Washington (Zone 1) and Worcester counties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We find the winter season is popular with hunters as it provides another opportunity to hunt with a firearm after\u00a0the hectic holiday season,&#8221;\u00a0Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. &#8220;The harvest during these last few days helps us meet our\u00a0management goal of\u00a0reducing the deer population in Region B.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The season\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/2015-2016-white-tailed-deer-seasons-bag-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\">bag limits<\/a> (including any deer taken during the previous firearm season) are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One antlered white-tailed deer (statewide limit);<\/li>\n<li>Ten antlerless white-tailed deer;<\/li>\n<li>Three sika deer, no more than one antlered, in designated counties only.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In Region B, a hunter may also take one bonus antlered white-tailed deer per license year in the weapon season of their choice after purchasing a Bonus Antlered Deer Stamp and taking two antlerless white-tailed deer during any weapon season.<\/p>\n<p>Hunters in Frederick County should be aware of\u00a0changes\u00a0to the\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2015\/10\/15\/frederick-county-shotgun-deer-hunting-zone-changed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shotgun Deer Hunting Zone<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr2.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0advises\u00a0hunters to carefully inspect all tree-stands and always wear a full-body safety harness while climbing. The department strongly recommends using a sliding knot, commonly known as a prussic knot, attached to a line that is secured above the stand that allows the hunter to be safely tethered to the tree.
