Hunters who possess a valid Maryland hunting license or are exempt from license requirements may use firearms to harvest sika and white-tailed deer during this season.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two-week firearm season is our most popular deer hunting opportunity,\u201d Department of Natural Resources\u00a0Director of Wildlife and Heritage Paul Peditto said. \u201cNot only is the deer harvest over this period a critical part of the department\u2019s deer management program, it also allows hunters to spend time outdoors and provide food for their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/11\/deermanagementzones.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9399\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/11\/deermanagementzones-300x278.jpg\" alt=\"deermanagementzones\" width=\"300\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/11\/deermanagementzones-300x278.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/11\/deermanagementzones.jpg 520w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/2015-2016-white-tailed-deer-seasons-bag-limits\" target=\"_blank\">bag limits<\/a>\u00a0for the season are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Statewide<\/strong>: one antlered white-tailed deer. Three sika deer, no more than one antlered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In <\/strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/deer-management-regions\/\" target=\"_blank\">Region A<\/a><\/strong>: On private land, one antlerless deer on Dec. 11 or 12. On public land, one antlerless deer on Dec. 12.\u00a0Hunters may only take two antlerless deer total for the license year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/deer-management-regions\/\" target=\"_blank\">Region B<\/a><\/strong>: Ten antlerless white-tailed deer. One bonus antlered white-tailed may be taken per year during a\u00a0weapon season of the hunter\u2019s choice (archery, muzzleloader or firearm). A hunter must first take two antlerless white-tailed deer and purchase a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/licenses-stamps-permits\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bonus Antlered Deer Stamp<\/a> before taking a second antlered deer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hunters in Frederick County should be aware of <strong>new changes<\/strong> to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2015\/10\/15\/frederick-county-shotgun-deer-hunting-zone-changed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shotgun Deer Hunting Zone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr2.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Department of Natural Resources<\/a> advises hunters to wear a full-body safety harness while climbing in or out and while in the tree stand. It strongly recommends using a sliding knot, commonly known as a prussic knot, attached to a line that is secured above the tree stand.
