Meet its collection of critters and the people who know them best at the Maryland State Fair, an end-of summer ritual for tens of thousands of families that begins Aug. 28.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state fair is an informal venue to showcase DNR\u2019s people and programs, and to share our passion for and knowledge of Maryland\u2019s natural resources,\u201d said DNR Secretary Mark Belton. \u201cBring your cameras and questions. We can\u2019t wait to help you connect with our department and the outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the fixed exhibits* found in the Mosner Miller Building, DNR has special presentations for the weekends:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Park naturalists will introduce visitors to animal ambassadors from the <strong>Scales and Tales program<\/strong>. One-hour live reptile shows will be held: Aug. 29 &amp; 30 and Sept. 5 &amp; 6, at 1 p.m. &amp; 3 p.m. on the Carolina Carport Free Stage in the My Maryland State Fair Park.<\/li>\n<li>Natural Resources Police officers and their <strong>K-9 police partners<\/strong> will have a meet and greet on Aug. 29 &amp; 30, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Get your picture taken with NRP\u2019s new mascot, <strong>Splash the Water Safety Dog<\/strong>, Sept. 5 &amp; 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Mosner Miller Building will feature interactive exhibits, live reptile displays and information on everything from state park adventures to boating and hunting safety. Visitors can learn about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnr.maryland.gov\/photocontest\/\" target=\"_blank\">DNR\u2019s photo contest<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr2.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/youth\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Youth Fishing Club<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/education\/cmg_about.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Color Maryland Green student art contest<\/a>, all-ages <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/education\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\">outdoor wildlife programs<\/a>, volunteer opportunities and more. DNR exhibits are open Monday through Thursday 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland State Fairgrounds is located at 2200 York Road in Timonium. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday Aug. 28 through Monday Sept. 7.
