Maryland DNR photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All state residents and visitors can fish without needing a fishing license, trout stamp, or registration on June 6, June 13, and July 4.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Annual license-free fishing days provide a unique chance to explore the state\u2019s diverse fishing opportunities. They are also a great time for licensed anglers to introduce a friend or family member to fishing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hosts license-free fishing every year on the first two Saturdays of June and on Independence Day to take advantage of peak spring and summer fishing. On these days, any individual may catch and possess finfish for recreational purposes in any tidal and nontidal waters of Maryland.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All anglers must follow current regulations, including size and catch limits found in the department\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/fishing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fishing and crabbing guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DNR also has dozens of resources to help new and experienced anglers, including an interactive <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experience.arcgis.com\/experience\/5697efd09521400c9cd37b36c49ad6c5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">angler access map<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/fishfacts-index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fish identification charts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In addition, anglers of any level are encouraged to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/public.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/MDDNR\/subscriber\/new?qsp=CODE_RED\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sign up<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the weekly Maryland Fishing Report, which provides up-to-date fishing information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any angler looking to make a positive impact on the health of the Chesapeake Bay can use these free fishing opportunities to catch invasive species such as Chesapeake Channa (northern snakehead) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2024\/04\/08\/join-the-hunt-how-to-catch-a-blue-catfish-in-maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">blue catfish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. These fish threaten native species, but they are fun to catch and make a tasty, high-protein meal. There are no seasons or limits on catching invasive fish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aside from these <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/free-fishing.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">free fishing days<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and certain <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/license-free.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">license-free areas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, anyone age 16 or older fishing in Maryland must possess a fishing license when fishing in Maryland. Licenses can be obtained or renewed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/compass.dnr.maryland.gov\/dnrcompassportal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in person at a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/licensing.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">department service center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or participating <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_agents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">retail sports license agents<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, or by phone at 866-344-8889.
