Visitors can snap a photo with the CCC-built structures to earn five points towards the America in Miniature challenge.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Park Service is challenging visitors to embark on a photographic scavenger hunt across the state to celebrate Maryland 250.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nearly a century ago, National Geographic Editor Gilbert Grosvenor called Maryland \u201ca delightful geographic miniature of America,\u201d referring to the state\u2019s varied topography. A nickname for our state was coined. Today, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/MPS-AIM.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">America In Miniature: Maryland State Parks Adventure Challenge<\/a> offers a chance to explore the stunning and varied terrain of the state, and a chance to earn a challenge badge.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Directions for the America in Miniature challenge are:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First, go to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopdnr.com\/aim26adventure.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">www.shopdnr.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to register \u2013 a $10 donation to the Maryland Park Service is required to cover the cost of the badge and shipping.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_47221\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/RAP_4952-1-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47221\" class=\"wp-image-47221 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/RAP_4952-1-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"Green oak leaves. Challenge participants can take a picture of a white oak in a Maryland State Park for five points.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Next, adventure. Earn points for each task you complete. Snap your photo with the Maryland flag in a park? Ten points. Visit the historic Grusendorf Log Cabin? Five points. Visit a bald eagle at a Maryland aviary? Five points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When you hit 250 points, one point for each year since America\u2019s founding, submit your photos and receive a badge for completing the America in Miniature Challenge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are 20 challenge categories to choose from, and options all over the state \u2013 seek out cannons, lighthouses, state symbols, and historic structures. Pick your own path to reach 250 points. A complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/MPS-AIM.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">breakdown of points and challenges can be found on the America In Miniature webpage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Park Service has placed 10 new benches along trails across the state. Registration through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shopdnr.com\">www.shopdnr.com<\/a> costs $25 and participants receive a commemorative item upon completion. Photos from the hikes can be entered into prize drawings all year long.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Miles for Maryland continues through Dec. 31. Hikers can register as an individual or as a group \u2013 each mile a team member walks, together or apart, counts towards your total.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All 250 miles must be completed in Maryland State Parks during 2026 to qualify for prizes. Team leaders must report how many miles were hiked in each park, each month.
