A similar special hunting day was held in early November 2025.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis day represents one of the last opportunities for youth and veteran hunters to enjoy a waterfowl hunt before many of our hunting seasons close for the year\u201d, said Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Karina Stonesifer. \u201cWe encourage youth, veteran, and military waterfowl hunters to take this opportunity to learn the traditions of waterfowl hunting and honor the security our veterans have provided.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those 16 years of age or younger and military veterans (as defined in section 101 of title 38, United States Code) of any age and members of the Armed Forces on active duty, including members of the National Guard and Reserves on active duty (other than for training) may hunt ducks, geese, and coots on both public and private land on Feb. 7, 2026.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Youth hunters must be accompanied by an unarmed adult at least 21 years old or by eligible, licensed military personnel also participating in the hunt. All eligible hunters and adult mentors must possess Maryland hunting licenses or be exempt from hunting license requirements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any adult participating in this hunt will need to purchase both a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp and a Federal Duck Stamp.\u00a0 Youth hunters, including those possessing an <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/nrp\/Pages\/About-the-Apprenticeship-Hunting-License.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">apprentice license<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, must purchase a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp but do not need to purchase a Federal Duck Stamp if under 16 years of age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/migratory-game-bird-seasons-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bag limits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0for the hunting\u00a0days are the same as the regular seasons except:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two scaup may be taken;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One Canada goose may be taken when hunting within the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maryland.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=caf337498c1b4da2b2081f542be6d6bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Population (AP)\u00a0Canada Goose\u00a0Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Five Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maryland.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=caf337498c1b4da2b2081f542be6d6bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Late Southern and Western Maryland Resident Goose Zones.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For information on public hunting lands and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/publiclands\/allbyregion.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife Management Areas,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> please see pages 60-63 of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2025-26 Maryland Guide to Hunting and Trapping<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Waterfowl hunters are advised there have been isolated cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in wild birds this year. Hunting wild birds is safe and risk to humans is low, but the Maryland Department of Natural Resources recommends some <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2025\/12\/22\/maryland-dnr-provides-guidance-concerning-highly-pathogenic-avian-influenza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">HPAI guidelines for hunters on the department\u2019s website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Licenses, stamps, and permits may be purchased\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/compass.dnr.maryland.gov\/dnrcompassportal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u00a0by phone at 855-855-3906, at a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_centers.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Natural Resources Service Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0or at any one of the more than\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_agents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">250 Sport License Agents<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0statewide.
