The <\/span>Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission<\/span><\/a> are seeking nominations for the annual <\/span>Maryland Sport Fisheries Achievement Award<\/span><\/a>, a celebration of conservation, education, and sportsmanship. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have <\/span>worked to improve efforts in habitat management, conservation, education, research, or made other meaningful contributions that benefit fish and recreational fishing in Maryland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nominations for the Maryland Sport Fisheries Achievement Award are being accepted now through January 31, 2026. Recipients will receive a proclamation signed by the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and the chair of the Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the award was first created in 2019, recipients have included:<\/span><\/p>\n

2020: Bernard ‘Lefty’ Kreh (posthumous), Dr. Kenneth Lewis<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2021: Joe Brooks (posthumous), Robert Wall<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2022 James ‘Jim’ Gracie (posthumous), Bruno Vasta<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2023: Monty Hawkins<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2024: Dr. Ray Morgan<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2025: Shawn Kimbro<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Nominations for the 2026 award can be made by completing an <\/span>online form<\/span><\/a>, which includes submitting a detailed essay describing the nominee\u2019s contributions to Maryland recreational fisheries.
