Funding approved for DNR\u2019s Program Open Space Local, Rural Legacy, and Conservation Reserve Enhancement Permanent Easement programs<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Gunpowder Rural Legacy Area in Baltimore County protects significant river frontage, which also protect the drinking water source for the Baltimore metropolitan area, including Pretty Boy and Loch Raven reservoirs.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Board of Public Works today approved $3.75 million in grants from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to local governments and land trusts for recreation and land conservation in Baltimore, Cecil, Charles, Kent, Queen Anne\u2019s, and St. Mary\u2019s counties.<\/span><\/p>\n

About $192,000 in <\/span>Program Open Space \u2013 Local<\/span><\/a> funding was approved for a new restroom to be constructed in Queen Anne\u2019s County\u2019s White Marsh Park. This county park in Centreville is highly active throughout the year and includes one of the <\/span>state\u2019s only public agroforestry gardens<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the Board approved more than $3.4 million in <\/span>Rural Legacy<\/span><\/a> funding for five conservation easement acquisitions that protect a total of more than 600 acres of land across Maryland:<\/span><\/p>\n
