Maryland Department of Natural Resource photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0reminds residents that black bears are beginning a period of increased feeding activity in preparation for winter hibernation.\u00a0As the leaves change and the weather cools, bears will travel across roads more frequently. They also can become more attracted to human-provided food sources and lose their natural fear of people, which can be dangerous for both people and bears.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBecause bears need to consume more than 10,000 calories a day, they will be more active and more visible as we head into fall,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Director Karina Stonesifer said.\u00a0\u201cTo help keep our bears wild and everyone safe, residents should take action to limit interaction with bears by proactively removing any food and attractants from their properties.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Residents and visitors should note that keeping bird feeders, pet food and trash in a place where bears can\u2019t get to them is the best way to avoid problems.
