A similar special hunting day is held each November.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u201cThis opportunity provides a chance to teach the next generation of wildlife conservationists and honor the service of our military personnel,\u201d said Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Karina Stonesifer. \u201cThe youth and military hunt represents one of the last opportunities to hunt waterfowl before the 2024-25 seasons come to a close.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Those 16 years of age or younger and military veterans (as defined in section 101 of title 38, United States Code) of any age and members of the Armed Forces on active duty, including members of the National Guard and Reserves on active duty (other than for training) may hunt ducks, geese, and coots on both public and private land on Feb. 8, 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old who is unarmed unless they are eligible military personnel also participating in the hunt. All eligible hunters and adult mentors must possess Maryland hunting licenses or be exempt from hunting license requirements. Any adult participating in this hunt will need to purchase both a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp and a Federal Duck Stamp. Youth hunters, including those possessing an <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/nrp\/Pages\/About-the-Apprenticeship-Hunting-License.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">apprentice license<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, must purchase a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp but do not need to purchase a Federal Duck Stamp if under 16 years of age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/migratory-game-bird-seasons-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bag limits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0for the hunting\u00a0days are the same as the regular seasons except:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two scaup may be taken;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maryland.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=caf337498c1b4da2b2081f542be6d6bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Population (AP)\u00a0Canada Goose\u00a0Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Five Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maryland.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=caf337498c1b4da2b2081f542be6d6bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Flyway Resident Population (AFRP) Canada Goose Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For information on public hunting lands and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/publiclands\/allbyregion.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife Management Areas,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> please see pages 60-63 of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2024-25 Maryland Guide to Hunting and Trapping<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Licenses, stamps, and permits may be purchased\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/compass.dnr.maryland.gov\/dnrcompassportal\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u00a0by phone at 855-855-3906, at a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_centers.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Natural Resources Service Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0or at any one of the more than\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_agents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">250 Sport License Agents<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0statewide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunters with questions may contact the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Wildlife and Heritage Service at 410-260-8540.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>ADVISORY: Avian Influenza in Maryland<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Highly Pathogenic H5 Avian Influenza (HPAI), often called \u201cbird flu,\u201d has been detected in wild birds and poultry farms in Maryland. The presence of HPAI should be considered endemic throughout Maryland\u2019s wild bird populations, especially waterfowl and raptors. Risk to human health is low and outdoor activities are safe, but some precautions are advised.
