Photo by Anthony Burrows, Maryland Department of Natural Resources.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland residents and visitors are invited to start the new year on the right foot with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/pages\/firstdayhikes.aspx\"><b>First Day Hikes<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, part of a nationwide initiative led by America\u2019s State Parks. From <\/span><b>December 31, 2024, through January 2, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Marylanders can explore the beauty of their local state parks through a variety of guided and self-guided hiking opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This annual tradition offers a fantastic way to reconnect with nature, get some fresh air, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Eo3ngnSK3JM&amp;t=16s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">celebrate the start of 2025<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. With hikes available across the state, there is an option for everyone.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><b>This year\u2019s First Day Hike options include:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Ranger-Led Hikes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Visitors can join a knowledgeable Maryland State Park Ranger for a guided adventure. These hikes have set start times and may require advance registration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Self-Guided Hikes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Hikers explore trails and their own pace throughout the weekend. Well-marked paths make it easy to enjoy the scenery, and park staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist before hitting the trail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>AllTrails-Guided Hikes:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> New for 2025, Maryland State Parks partnered with the AllTrails Public Lands Program to help visitors discover and navigate park trails with ease. Those who chart their own course are welcome to take a First Day Hike on any trail or at any Maryland State Park on January 1 and are invited to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tinyurl.com\/274fgoqg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">visit the DNR website to share their adventure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and how many miles they covered.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hikes are held in every region of Maryland.
