{"id":43671,"date":"2024-12-17T14:50:11","date_gmt":"2024-12-17T19:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=43671"},"modified":"2024-12-17T14:50:11","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T19:50:11","slug":"new-maryland-clean-marina-certified-in-anne-arundel-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2024\/12\/17\/new-maryland-clean-marina-certified-in-anne-arundel-county\/","title":{"rendered":"New Maryland Clean Marina Certified in Anne Arundel County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Facility meets standards to improve local water quality and help restore the Chesapeake Bay<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/49526697272_5f16daed8f.jpg\" alt=\"Logo of Maryland Clean Marina program\" width=\"351\" height=\"351\" \/>The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has certified Gingerville Marina Center in Anne Arundel County as the newest Maryland <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Pages\/cleanmarina\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clean Marina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department awards this designation to marinas that comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and voluntarily adopt a significant portion of recommended best practices in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Pages\/cleanmarina\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. There are now <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Pages\/cleanmarina\/cleanmarinas.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">144 certified Clean Marinas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Maryland, representing about 30% of the marinas in the state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To meet the award\u2019s criteria, the marina management implemented required storm water sampling, installed new plantings near the water\u2019s edge, updated rules for contractors and boaters to control pollutants, and cleaned several storm water traps and drains. They recently installed a new sewage pumpout station and improved their spill response kit as well.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43674\" style=\"width: 246px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43674\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43674\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/12\/Gingerville-Marine-Center-Clean-Marina.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of three men at a marina holding a sign\" width=\"236\" height=\"177\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-43674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maryland DNR photo<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe improvements this marina made will directly improve the quality of the stormwater that runs off the property,\u201d said Clean Marina Program Manager Donna Morrow. \u201cAdditionally, Gingerville Marina has reduced the risks of accidents and spills and improved the site for staff and customers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Marinas, boatyards, and yacht clubs of any size are encouraged to pursue Clean Marina certification. The Clean Marina tools, including the Guidebook and Award Checklist, are available on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Pages\/cleanmarina\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department of Natural Resources website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Free resources and technical assistance to marinas seeking the award are also available from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
