Maryland Department of Natural Resources photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is offering holiday shoppers a different type of gift this year\u2013one that can be in honor of a loved one, to benefit future generations, and improve the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopdnr.com\/tree-mendousmarylandgiftoftrees.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gift of Trees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a program where Marylanders purchase native trees \u2014 either a single tree or a grove of 10 trees\u2014for planting in honor of a celebration, commemoration, or observation.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department will issue and mail a Gift of Trees certificate, which can be framed, within a week or two of an order. All trees will be planted in the next growing season, either spring or fall, to promote optimal growth and survival. With the holiday season fast upon us Tree-Mendous is grateful to receive an influx of orders, but that means the processing time during this peak order season. Anyone wishing to give the certificate as a gift should plan their order with this long wait in mind. Tree-Mendous has a small but passionate team who processes these orders as quickly as they can.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All trees will be planted in locations that will benefit from them the most, including parks, playgrounds and schoolyards; cities and towns; and along creeks and streams. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Forest Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> staff help choose the appropriate location and species to ensure the tree flourishes well into the future. Gift of Trees is one of several <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/treemendous\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tree-Mendous Maryland<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> programs aimed at helping citizens restore tree cover on public land and community open space in Maryland. Each tree planted also helps contribute toward Maryland\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/5-million-trees.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">5 Million Trees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> initiative to plant 5 million new trees during the next decade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trees can be ordered <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shopdnr.com\/tree-mendousmarylandgiftoftrees.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or via <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/treemendous\/orderbymail.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mail<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (a separate order form should be used for each recipient) along with a check made payable to: Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service, Tawes State Office Building, E-1, Annapolis, Maryland 21401.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is offering holiday shoppers a different type of gift this year\u2013one that can be in honor of a loved one, to benefit future generations, and improve the environment.
