The existing structure and fees had been in place since 2002, and the price of a regular resident hunting license had remained unchanged for 35 years.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cUpdating our license fees was necessary for the department to continue to offer quality services to Maryland hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Acting Director Karina Stonesifer said. \u201cThese funds are essential for managing the state\u2019s wildlife and associated lands that the public can enjoy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunting license fees, in conjunction with matching federal grants, comprise more than 90% of the department\u2019s Wildlife and Heritage Service budget. The increase in license fees will enable the department to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recruit, educate, and certify new hunters;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Better manage wildlife populations;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Continue to acquire and restore wildlife habitats;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintain and improve existing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/publiclands\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife Management Areas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide technical assistance to landowners;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Conduct wildlife research; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Enforce wildlife laws and regulations for the benefit of all Marylanders.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under the new legislation, the price of a resident regular hunting license will increase from $24.50 to $35 while the cost of a non-resident hunting license will increase from $130 to $160. Prices for apprentice and junior hunting licenses, 3-day non-resident licenses, migratory game bird stamps, and stamps\/permits for furbearer-related activities have also been adjusted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2023 legislation also created a new hunting stamp that will be required in order to hunt sika deer. The resident sika deer stamp will cost $10 while the non-resident version will cost $25.
