Through this program, local governments with qualifying projects are able to request $50,000 to $1 million to\u202fcreate new outdoor recreation spaces, reinvigorate existing parks, and create connections between people and the outdoors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department is accepting applications through July 31, 2023. Upon receipt, the Department of Natural Resources will review preliminary applications and invite the highest scoring applicants to create a final application package to be submitted to the National Park Service.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Municipalities and counties that qualify can then apply for up to 50% matching fund assistance from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Local matching funds can include money received from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources through the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/land\/pages\/programopenspace\/home.aspx\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program Open Space &#8211; Local<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/land\/Pages\/ProgramOpenSpace\/cpp.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Community Parks and Playgrounds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interested jurisdictions should complete and submit project documentation to Andrew Mengel at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:andrew.mengel@maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">andrew.mengel@maryland.gov<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
