Just then the boat\u2019s Shimano Tyrnos 50 two-speed reel, baited with eel and a blue-white skirt, was tugging<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Before long the fish \u201cjumped out of the water and looked like a Volkswagen,\u201d Jacobs said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Already exhausted from an eight-hour fishing trip, Jacobs spent the next five and a half hours fighting to pull the huge fish aboard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u201cGiving up wasn\u2019t an option,\u201d Jacobs said. \u201cWhen (we) saw it we all knew it was a state record.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The swordfish weight was officially certified by Hunter Dorchenzo at Ocean City Fishing Center. A Maryland DNR biologist confirmed the catch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The swordfish is more than 90 pounds larger than the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2021\/07\/29\/maryland-record-set-with-301-pound-swordfish-off-ocean-city-coast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">previous record<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, set in 2021 by New Jersey resident Jake Bertonazzi. The department maintains <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/state-records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">state records for sport fish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in four divisions \u2013 Atlantic, Chesapeake, Nontidal, and Invasive \u2013 and awards plaques to anglers who achieve record catches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anglers who think they have a potential record catch should download and fill out the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Documents\/srapplication.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">state record application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and call 443-569-1381 or 410-260-8325.
