The ceremony commemorated the members\u2019 completion of 10 months of job training, conservation work, and stewardship with the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Park Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Members from across the country, all between the ages of 17 and 25, completed at least 1,700 hours of service. This year\u2019s crews <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">planted more than 10,046 native trees, bay grasses and plants; treated almost 7,000 trees against harmful insects and diseases; and taught environmental education programs to more than 21,565 students, youth, and park visitors.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 361px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52263003799_6f54f963c9.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Secretary Riccio at a podium addressing graduates\" width=\"351\" height=\"234\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio addresses the Maryland Conservation Corps 2022 graduating class. Many alumni of the program have gone on to conservation careers with organizations, including Maryland DNR, the National Aquarium, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and many others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Conservation Corps, an award-winning AmeriCorps program, has been managed by the Maryland Park Service since 1984.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Program Provides Career Training for Environmental Stewards The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) honored 35 members of the 2021-2022 Maryland Conservation Corps during their graduation program on August 3.
