{"id":36149,"date":"2022-05-24T15:29:11","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T19:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=36149"},"modified":"2022-05-31T08:40:54","modified_gmt":"2022-05-31T12:40:54","slug":"maryland-conservation-corps-now-recruiting-young-adults-for-2022-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2022\/05\/24\/maryland-conservation-corps-now-recruiting-young-adults-for-2022-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Conservation Corps Recruiting Young Adults for 2022-23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Award-Winning Program Provides Practical Experience and Skills Training<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 363px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52046921907_6a9b44327c.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of group of people at riverside\" width=\"353\" height=\"265\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources photo<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is now <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/mcc_application.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recruiting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> members for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/pages\/mcc.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Conservation Corps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an award-winning AmeriCorps program that engages young adults aged 17-25 in extensive conservation, environmental, and natural resources management projects across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department seeks to hire 35 full-time members who will work on eight teams for an 11-month period, beginning in late September 2022.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an average year, Maryland Conservation Corps members will:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintain thousands of acres of public lands<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Help preserve rich historical heritage sites<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintain hundreds of miles of trails<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plant thousands of trees<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide environmental education programming for Maryland students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Improve park nature centers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Restore wildlife habitat<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Support the improvement of the Chesapeake and coastal bays<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Maryland Conservation Corps provides young adults with a meaningful opportunity to gain experience in environmental science and natural resource conservation,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Park Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Superintendent Nita Settina said. \u201cFrom aquatic systems and public lands management, the program offers hands-on, real-world experience in a team-based environment that supports community service and conservation stewardship.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To be considered, interested individuals must submit an online <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/mcc_application.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
