Hudson<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed a new state record for white perch in the state\u2019s Atlantic division. Robert \u201cBob\u201d Hudson, of Ocean Pines, unexpectedly landed the 1.85-pound white perch in the Isle of Wight Bay near Ocean City.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hudson and a friend intended to go clamming, but saw some active fish in the bay. With no rod on board, the duo headed back to shore to find gear. With a beginner light spinning rod and a \u201cRoy Rig\u201d \u2013 locally popular lure that is basically a rubber shad body rigged on a lead head \u2013 Hudson returned to the water and after two casts, caught the record white perch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cLook at the size of that,\u201d Hudson said after reeling in the white perch. \u201cWe never see (white perch) in the middle of the bay.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hudson\u2019s record catch was weighed on a certified scale at Crabs to Go by Sarah Stephan and officially confirmed as a white perch \u2013 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/fish-facts.aspx?fishname=White%20Perch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Morone americana<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 by a DNR biologist.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The catch surpassed the previous Maryland state record held by Ryan Timmons with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2016\/08\/09\/two-white-perch-records-set-in-maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1.7-pound white perch caught in 2016<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department maintains <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/state-records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">state records for sport fish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in four divisions \u2013 Atlantic, Chesapeake, Nontidal and Invasive \u2013 and awards plaques to anglers who achieve record catches. Fish caught from privately-owned, fee-fishing waters are not eligible for record consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anglers reporting a potential record catch should call 443-569-1381 or 410-260-8325.
