Fan Favorite Winner to Be Chosen on Facebook<\/em><\/p>\n

A Raven Having Breakfest by Nathaniel Peck<\/p><\/div>\n

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has announced the winners of the 2021 <\/span>Natural Resources Photo Contest<\/span><\/a>, with the grand prize going to Nathaniel Peck of Flintstone for his dramatically captured photo of nature in action, \u201cA Raven Having Breakfast.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s grand prize package includes $500, a\u00a0Maryland State Parks Passport<\/a>, a subscription to\u00a0Maryland Natural Resource magazine<\/a>, and five copies of the 2022 calendar with the winning image displayed on the cover.<\/p>\n

Nearly 2,000 photos were submitted by more than 400 photographers in this year\u2019s contest. In addition to the overall grand prize winner, the judges selected first through third place winners in four seasonal categories\u2014winter, spring, summer, and fall.<\/p>\n

Still to be determined is the \u201cFan Favorite,\u201d which will be chosen by popular opinion on the department\u2019s Facebook page. Followers are encouraged to \u201cLike\u201d and \u201cShare\u201d their pick when the photos are posted the week of September 13, with votes taken through September 27.<\/p>\n

First place: Short-eared Owl Hovering<\/a> by Mitch Adolph of Lutherville<\/p>\n

Second place: A Grebe’s Gaze<\/a> by Michael Ocasio of Cottage Grove, MN<\/p>\n

Third place: Snow-covered Jericho<\/a> by Eric Larson of Bel Air<\/p>\n

Spring:<\/b><\/p>\n

First place: Green Tree Frog<\/a> by Stephen Hayes of Baltimore<\/p>\n

Second place: Icarus Makes It to the Sun<\/a> by Madhuri Shenker\u00a0of Elkridge<\/p>\n

Third place: To The Trees<\/a> by Heather K. Rees of Rising Sun<\/p>\n

Summer:<\/b><\/p>\n

First place: Rough Greensnake<\/a> by James Rode of Dundalk<\/p>\n

Second place: Monarch Caterpillar on Butterfly Weed<\/a> by Marta Fiscus of Cumberland<\/p>\n

Third place: Eastern Newt<\/a> by Marta Fiscus of Cumberland<\/p>\n
