These competitive grants are designed to help communities plan and design solutions to withstand flooding and other weather-related events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The projects selected will identify and prioritize vulnerable communities, incorporate climate change data and information into existing plans and policies, and develop nature-based or natural solutions to control flooding. Funding is provided by Governor Hogan\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/Resiliency-through-Restoration.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Resiliency Through Restoration Initiative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Maryland&#8217;s local communities are seeking projects that will put them in better positions to address flooding and other climate impacts,&#8221; Maryland DNR Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio said. \u201cWe are pleased to lend our expertise and the resources needed for the planning and nature-based design work to build resilient and thriving communities within dynamic coastal environments.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grant funding is awarded this year to the following local governments and community partners:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Anne Arundel County &#8212; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prepare a 10-year update to the County\u2019s Sea Level Rise Strategic Plan<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Blue Water Baltimore <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8212; Design green infrastructure practices to control stormwater at the St. Agnes Healthcare campus in West Baltimore<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Charles County &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Identify potential solutions to reduce or eliminate flooding in three areas of the Zekiah watershed that experience frequent urban flooding\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Maryland Coastal Bays Program <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8212; Design a nature-based island restoration project to enhance an eroding three-acre Coastal Bays island offshore of Ocean City<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>NeighborSpace of Baltimore County<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8212; Design green infrastructure features to address stormwater flooding and increase climate resilience at Powhatan Park<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Prince George\u2019s County<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8212; Prepare Phase 2 of the County\u2019s Nuisance Flood Plan<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Town of Snow Hill &#8211;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Study flooding issues in Byrd Park and identify possible solutions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To streamline the grant application and management process, the department has created the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/funding\/grantsgateway.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grants Gateway<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to provide a single entry point for grantees, and assures access to funding for innovative, local projects. In addition to ease of use for applicants, the gateway provides the department an integrated grant-management system to monitor sources, manage data, and ensure grants are consistent with the department\u2019s strategic priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Through the improved connections across similar grant programs, the department seeks to support more comprehensive and integrated projects that achieve at least one of the following outcomes: fostering healthy ecosystems, building resiliency, or providing outdoor learning experiences.
