{"id":32496,"date":"2021-01-28T10:19:50","date_gmt":"2021-01-28T15:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=32496"},"modified":"2021-01-28T10:39:14","modified_gmt":"2021-01-28T15:39:14","slug":"youth-waterfowl-veteran-and-military-hunting-day-feb-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2021\/01\/28\/youth-waterfowl-veteran-and-military-hunting-day-feb-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth, Veteran, and Military Waterfowl Hunting Day Feb. 6"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Special Day to Share Maryland\u2019s Time-Honored Traditions<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 361px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/1665\/24483508134_514ef9b81f.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of geese in water and hunters with a dog hidden in a blind\" width=\"351\" height=\"234\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Larry Hindman\/Maryland DNR<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland\u2019s youth hunters, veterans, and military personnel can experience the thrills of hunting fields and wetlands on a special waterfowl hunting day Feb. 6.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe opportunity to offer special hunts to youth has become a part of our annual waterfowl hunting traditions, and we are happy to expand this privilege to our veterans and military personnel,\u201d Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. \u201cThis day gives our youth hunters and military personnel time to share the magic of Maryland\u2019s marshes and fields.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunters 16 years of age or younger, military veterans of any age (as defined in section 101 of Title 38, United States Code), and members of the Armed Forces on active duty, including members of the National Guard and Reserves on active duty (other than for training) may hunt ducks, geese, and coots on public and private land during the special hunt day. Youth hunters must be accompanied by an unarmed adult at least 21 years old or by eligible military personnel also participating in the hunt. All eligible hunters and adult mentors must possess Maryland hunting licenses or be exempt from hunting license requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Any adult participating in this hunt will need to purchase both a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp and a Federal Duck Stamp. Youth hunters, including those possessing an <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/nrp\/Pages\/About-the-Apprenticeship-Hunting-License.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">apprentice license<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, must purchase a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp but do not need to purchase a Federal Duck Stamp if under 16 years of age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/migratory-game-bird-seasons-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bag limits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0for the hunting\u00a0days are the same as regular seasons except:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two black ducks may be taken.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One Canada goose may be taken when hunting within the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Documents\/Goose_Hunt_Zones_Map.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Population (AP)\u00a0Canada Goose\u00a0Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Five Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Documents\/Goose_Hunt_Zones_Map.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Flyway Resident Population (AFRP) Canada Goose Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For information on
