{"id":32354,"date":"2020-12-17T08:30:37","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T13:30:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=32354"},"modified":"2020-12-16T18:50:26","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T23:50:26","slug":"wolf-den-run-state-park-opens-additional-1375-acres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/12\/17\/wolf-den-run-state-park-opens-additional-1375-acres\/","title":{"rendered":"Wolf Den Run State Park Opens Additional 1,375 Acres"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Expanded Recreation Includes Off-Road Vehicle Trails<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48679280702_35bbe6d9f7.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of off-road vehicle on a trail.\" width=\"356\" height=\"200\" \/>The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> announces that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/pages\/western\/wolf-den-run.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wolf Den Run State Park<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has now opened two additional areas, adding 1,375 acres of land and 25 miles of multi-use trails, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/orv\/register.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">off-road vehicle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (ORV) use.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Potomac River Area encompasses about 1,000 acres, and provides more than 18 miles of technical riding, as well as moderate to easy trails for the ORV rider. Additional recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking and hunting, plus fishing access to three miles of the North Branch of the Potomac River. The area also includes 12 picnic sites overlooking the Potomac River.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The North Hill Area includes about 375 acres, and provides more than six miles of easy to moderate trails for the ORV rider, with a short hill climb that is rated as difficult. Additional recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, and hunting.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Both new areas also offer primitive camping sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Along with the park\u2019s Huckleberry Rocks area, these parcels are open for ORV riding every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., from April 1 through Oct. 31.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From Nov. 1 through March 31, the areas are open for ORV riding from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Monday each week, except during deer firearms hunting season when they will be closed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All three parcels are open to day use visitors year-round, from 8 a.m. to sunset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reservations are required for camping and riding. Riding reservations can be made online through the Wolf Den Run State Park <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/pages\/western\/wolf-den-run.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
