{"id":32117,"date":"2020-11-05T08:30:30","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T13:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=32117"},"modified":"2020-11-04T21:57:30","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T02:57:30","slug":"waterfowl-hunting-days-set-for-youth-veterans-and-active-military","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/11\/05\/waterfowl-hunting-days-set-for-youth-veterans-and-active-military\/","title":{"rendered":"Waterfowl Hunting Days Set for Youth, Veterans, and Active Military"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4735\/24491475097_0a431832c1.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of adult teaching young hunter in a field\" width=\"353\" height=\"265\" \/>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0announces two special waterfowl hunting days on Nov. 7, 2020 and Feb. 6, 2021 for Maryland\u2019s youth hunters, and for the first time, for active military personnel and veterans as well.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis year\u2019s traditional youth waterfowl day has been expanded to include additional opportunities for our veterans and military personnel,\u201d Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. \u201cYouth waterfowl day has always given our youth hunters the opportunity to learn hunting skills and conservation ethics from more experienced sportsmen and women. These two days now are shared with a group of hunters whom we can thank for the freedoms we enjoy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These two days are available to hunters 16 years of age or younger, military veterans (as defined in section 101 of title 38, United States Code) of any age, and members of the Armed Forces on active duty, including members of the National Guard and Reserves on active duty (other than for training), Youth hunters must be accompanied by an unarmed adult at least 21 years old or by eligible military personnel also participating in the hunt.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eligible hunters may bag ducks, geese, and coots on both public and private land on these two days. The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/migratory-game-bird-seasons-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bag limits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the hunting days are the same as the regular seasons except:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two black ducks may be taken;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One Canada goose may be taken when hunting within the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Documents\/Goose_Hunt_Zones_Map.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Population Canada Goose Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Five Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Documents\/Goose_Hunt_Zones_Map.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Atlantic Flyway Resident Population Canada Goose Hunting Zone<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All eligible hunters and adult mentors must possess Maryland hunting licenses or be exempt from hunting license requirements. Any adult participating in this hunt will need to purchase both a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp and a Federal Duck Stamp.
