{"id":32013,"date":"2020-11-02T11:07:10","date_gmt":"2020-11-02T16:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=32013"},"modified":"2020-11-02T11:09:26","modified_gmt":"2020-11-02T16:09:26","slug":"fall-turkey-season-open-in-western-maryland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/11\/02\/fall-turkey-season-open-in-western-maryland\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall Turkey Season Open in Western Maryland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three-County Hunt Runs Through Nov. 8<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 362px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/1964\/44751081045_c07478ae73.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of wild turkey\" width=\"352\" height=\"227\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Andrew Gue<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0announced today that the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/hunt_trap\/WildTurkeyHunting.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fall turkey hunting season<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0will open Oct. 31 and continue through Nov. 8 in Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties, with a bag limit of one turkey per hunter.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWestern Maryland has a long tradition of fall turkey hunting,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Director Paul Peditto said. \u201cHunters shouldn\u2019t overlook the opportunity to try and coax a fall turkey into range.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Documents\/wt_observe_survey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2020 Wild Turkey Observation Survey Summary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0shows that turkey reproduction in western Maryland was lower than in previous years. Although the numbers of young turkeys may be lower, hunters who scout should be able to locate fall flocks. Surveys suggest acorn production was poor and spotty this year.
