{"id":31645,"date":"2020-10-07T13:26:44","date_gmt":"2020-10-07T17:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=31645"},"modified":"2020-10-07T13:28:45","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T17:28:45","slug":"board-of-public-works-approves-funding-for-green-infrastructure-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/10\/07\/board-of-public-works-approves-funding-for-green-infrastructure-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Board of Public Works Approves Funding for Green Infrastructure Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funding for Resiliency in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, and St. Mary\u2019s Counties<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50431809538_53de83f541.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of waves crashing onto shore at Piney Point, St. Mary's County\" width=\"350\" height=\"264\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo courtesy St. Mary&#8217;s County<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Board of Public Works today approved funding for two <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/Resiliency-through-Restoration.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Resiliency through Restoration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> projects and one Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund grant, to help Maryland\u2019s communities enhance their ability to withstand the impacts of climate change, erosion, flooding and extreme weather.\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Board approved the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (DNR) granting $200,000 to control stormwater and install green infrastructure in the <\/span><b>Baltimore City<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> area of Druid Heights. The funds will be used to remove 14,610 square feet of impervious surface, install 10 inches of topsoil, and plant 62 new trees and turf grass on the site. This project is supported through Baltimore City\u2019s Green Network Plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, DNR will support the design of living shorelines in two counties to protect infrastructure and park access while enhancing habitat and water quality.
