Fan Favorite Winner to Be Chosen on Facebook<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Red Morph Eastern Screech Owl by Zaphir Shamma<\/p><\/div>\n

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has announced the winners of the 2020 <\/span>Natural Resources Photo Contest<\/span><\/a>, with the grand prize going to Zaphir Shamma of Gunpowder for his striking photo of an eastern screech owl nestled in a tree cavity.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s grand prize package includes $500, a <\/span>Maryland State Parks Passport<\/span><\/a>, a subscription to <\/span>Maryland Natural Resource magazine<\/span><\/a>, and five copies of the 2021 calendar with the winning image displayed on the cover.<\/span><\/p>\n

About 2,500 photos were submitted by 475 photographers in this year\u2019s contest. In addition to the overall grand prize winner, the judges selected first through third place winners in four seasonal categories\u2014winter, spring, summer, and fall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Still to be determined is the \u201cFan Favorite,\u201d which will be chosen by popular opinion on the department\u2019s Facebook page. Followers are encouraged to \u201cLike\u201d and \u201cShare\u201d their pick when the photos are posted the first weekend of October, with votes taken through October 12.<\/span><\/p>\n

Third place: <\/span>Winter Company<\/span><\/a> by Frank Tiralla of Cockeysville<\/span><\/p>\n

Spring:<\/b><\/p>\n
