{"id":31085,"date":"2020-08-07T10:46:07","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T14:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=31085"},"modified":"2020-08-07T10:46:07","modified_gmt":"2020-08-07T14:46:07","slug":"waterfowl-hunting-permits-available-for-deal-island-fairmount","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/08\/07\/waterfowl-hunting-permits-available-for-deal-island-fairmount\/","title":{"rendered":"Waterfowl Hunting Permits Available for Deal Island, Fairmount"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lottery Open for Wildlife Management Area Impoundments<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4738\/38493907675_83487828de.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Fairmount Wildlife Management Area\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fairmount Wildlife Management Area<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> announced a new schedule and process for annual permit-only waterfowl hunting at<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/publiclands\/eastern\/dealisland.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deal Island Wildlife Management Area<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/publiclands\/eastern\/fairmount.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fairmount Wildlife Management Area<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> impoundments, located in Somerset County on Maryland\u2019s Eastern Shore. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The changes are being made to reduce crowding and improve the quality of waterfowl hunting during the regular duck season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applications for permits for both the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Documents\/2020-DealIslandImpoundmentPermit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deal Island<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Documents\/2020-FairmountImpoundmentPermit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fairmount<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> impoundments are now available on the Department\u2019s website and are due Sept. 14. Permits for the regular duck season will be issued by lottery conducted in mid-September.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These permits will allow the selected hunter and up to two additional guests to hunt on the dates for which they are chosen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2020-2021 schedule provides 17 open hunting dates during the three combined duck season segments at both impoundments as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the October segment: opening day and Saturdays\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the November segment: opening day, Saturdays, and the Friday following Thanksgiving\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the December-January segment: opening day and Saturdays, with Wednesdays added after Jan. 1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunters should note that a permit will now be required to hunt on all open days during the regular duck season at the Deal Island impoundment. As in the past, a permit will be required to hunt at the Fairmount impoundments on the opening day of each segment of the regular duck season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All the impoundments will remain open to qualified hunters without permits on special youth and veteran hunting days, and during the September Resident Goose Season.
