{"id":30821,"date":"2020-06-16T12:45:58","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T16:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=30821"},"modified":"2020-06-16T13:13:14","modified_gmt":"2020-06-16T17:13:14","slug":"maryland-conservation-corps-fall-class-now-recruiting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/06\/16\/maryland-conservation-corps-fall-class-now-recruiting\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Conservation Corps Fall Class Now Recruiting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Program Provides Experience and Skills Training for Young Adults<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4344\/35519637254_5e39fe0f2e.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Maryland Conservation Corps flag\" width=\"352\" height=\"301\" \/>The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is now <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/mcc_application.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recruiting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> members for the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/pages\/mcc.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Conservation Corps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an award-winning AmeriCorps program that engages young adults aged 17-25 in extensive conservation, environmental and natural resources management projects across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department seeks to hire 35 full-time members who will work on seven teams for an 11-month period, beginning in late September 2020.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an average year, Maryland Conservation Corps members will:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Conduct interpretive state park programming<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Help preserve rich historical heritage sites<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Improve park nature centers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintain hundreds of miles of trails<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plant thousands of trees<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provide environmental education programming for Maryland students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Restore wildlife habitat<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Support the improvement of the Chesapeake and coastal bays<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work with schools to plant bay grasses<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Managed by the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Park Service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the program offers hands-on, real-world experience in a team-based environment that supports community service and conservation stewardship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selected participants will be required to follow Maryland Department of Natural Resources protocols developed to keep employees and the public safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To be considered, interested individuals must submit an online <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/mcc_application.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
