While this generally happens before spring\u2019s official arrival on the equinox, it makes me feel that spring &#8211; and fishing season &#8211; have arrived.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">March is also when the Department of Natural Resources resumes our weekly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/fishingreport\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Fishing Report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, available on our website, through our email newsletter, and also via your Amazon Echo device by saying \u201cAlexa: open the Maryland Fishing Report.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/trout\/stocking.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regularly scheduled stocking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of trout in Maryland\u2019s streams, rivers, and ponds occurs across the state. And anglers are awaiting the beginning of the yellow perch run which will start as soon as water temperatures start rising in Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland creeks and rivers.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Given the recent declines in striped bass, Maryland made <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2020\/02\/12\/striped-bass-conservation-regulations-set-for-spring-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">season adjustments to protect <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">spawning striped bass in the spring and is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Documents\/Striped%20Bass%20Management_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">proposing additional changes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to reduce mortality during warmer times of the year. As we head into warmer weather, we would like to remind everyone to utilize <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/recreational\/circle_hooks.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">circle hooks<\/a> and check for red flag days using our <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/SB_forecast.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">striped bass fishing advisory forecast<\/a> for the best &#8212; and the worst &#8212; times to fish.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fishing in Maryland is fun, but it is also an essential component of the conservation and effective management of our aquatic species. For these reasons, DNR works hard to keep Marylanders of all ages engaged. Again this year, the state will host 41 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/youth\/rodeo_list.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">youth fishing rodeos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in 14 counties. Through these events, more than 4,000 children and young adults will have the opportunity to try their hand at fishing &#8211; many for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By enacting strong conservation measures, utilizing best practices, and teaching the next generation of young anglers, we can ensure that Marylanders enjoy the tradition of fishing for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/DNR_Secretary.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Maryland, Fishing Springs Eternal!
