Facilities in Rock Hall Meet Award Standards<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\"LogoTwo marinas in Rock Hall recently passed inspection by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to earn the <\/span>Maryland Clean Marina Award<\/span><\/a>. Gratitude Marina and Osprey Point Marina met the<\/span> award criteria<\/span>, bringing the total number of<\/span> Clean Marinas and Clean Marina Partners<\/span><\/a> to 151 — about a quarter of the marinas in Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n

Program staff evaluate participating marinas or yacht clubs on areas such emergency preparedness, waste containment\/disposal, and stormwater management. To pass, the marina must score from 75% \u2013 85% in each area of the<\/span> award checklist<\/span> by implementing practices from the<\/span> Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of their environmental initiatives, both facilities installed fuel spill response kits, started sharing environmental education materials with slip holders, and wrote clear marina rules. Additionally, Gratitude Marina made several new signs for their fuel dock and boatyard, to improve safety and to promote pollution prevention practices. Clean Marinas are re-inspected every three years to ensure they continue to meet award criteria.<\/span><\/p>\n

The voluntary Clean Marina program was developed in 1998 with the goal of reducing non-point source pollution from marine facilities and recreational boats. Boaters are encouraged to participate by signing the <\/span>Maryland Clean Boater Pledge<\/span><\/a>.
