{"id":27801,"date":"2019-06-25T12:47:29","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T16:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=27801"},"modified":"2019-06-25T12:48:52","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T16:48:52","slug":"maryland-awards-30-9-million-to-bolster-water-quality-and-resilience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2019\/06\/25\/maryland-awards-30-9-million-to-bolster-water-quality-and-resilience\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Awards $30.9 Million to Improve Water Quality and Increase Resilience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department\u2019s Grants Gateway Opens Door for 96 Projects<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/47973875528_c2e14c77fa.jpg\" alt=\"Aerial photo of Maryland coastline\" width=\"351\" height=\"263\" \/>The<a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> today announced the awarding of <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Documents\/FY20-GrantsGateway_Project-Map-List.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$30.9 million in grants<\/a> to local communities to implement projects that will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">restore local waterways, increase climate resilience, and develop the next generation of environmental stewards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are pleased to support these innovative projects that will help us achieve our environmental goals,\u201d Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said. \u201cIn addition to improving the resilience of our communities, these projects will protect our local streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay in measurable ways.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A map of projects and list of awardees for Fiscal Year 2020 is available <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Documents\/FY20-GrantsGateway_Project-Map-List.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To streamline the grant application and management process, the department created a \u201c<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/funding\/grantsgateway.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grants Gateway<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d to provide a single entry point to access funding for innovative, local projects. In addition to ease of use for applicants, the Grants Gateway provides the department an integrated grant-management system to monitor sources, manage data, and ensure grants are consistent with the department\u2019s strategic priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grants are funded through the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund, the Coastal Resiliency Program, the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Chesapeake Bay Program, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
