Palese thought at first he\u2019d caught the \u201cbass of a lifetime.\u201d After fighting with the fish more than three minutes, he hauled in a bullhead catfish. Palese said several onlookers admired his catch telling him it was \u201cthe biggest bullhead they\u2019d ever seen.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> biologists and Conrad\u2019s Seafood Market certified the bullhead catfish tipping the scales at 4.94 pounds, beating the 3.6-pound record held by Zelijko Korectic since 2007.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department maintains <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/state-records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">state records<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for sport fish in four divisions \u2013 Atlantic, Chesapeake, Nontidal, and Invasive \u2013 and awards plaques to anglers who achieve record catches. Fish caught from privately-owned, fee-fishing waters are ineligible for consideration.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anglers who think they have a potential record catch should download and fill out the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Documents\/srapplication.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">state record application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and call 443-569-1381 or 410-260-8325.
