{"id":27443,"date":"2019-05-10T08:00:19","date_gmt":"2019-05-10T12:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=27443"},"modified":"2019-05-15T12:16:25","modified_gmt":"2019-05-15T16:16:25","slug":"maryland-parks-and-playgrounds-receive-2-5-million-in-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2019\/05\/10\/maryland-parks-and-playgrounds-receive-2-5-million-in-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Parks and Playgrounds Receive $2.5 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department Supports Projects in 19 Communities<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/1755\/42452618801_f58bb65477.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of playground \" width=\"351\" height=\"263\" \/>The <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/land\/Pages\/ProgramOpenSpace\/CPP-Grant-Process.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> is pleased to announce the award of 19 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/land\/Pages\/ProgramOpenSpace\/cpp.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Community Parks and Playgrounds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> grants, totaling $2.5 million, to municipalities across the state.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Community Parks and Playgrounds Program provides flexible grants to municipalities to rehabilitate, expand or improve existing parks, create new parks, or purchase and install playground equipment. <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFrom Garrett County to Worcester County, these projects provide \u00a0important outdoor recreation opportunities and green space to communities in every corner of our state, particularly in older neighborhoods and intensely developed areas,\u201d Maryland Natural Resources Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio said. \u201cWe are very proud of this program which helps children learn, thrive, and play in healthy environments.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To date, the program has funded more than 740 projects totaling more than $72 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The following projects were included in Governor Larry Hogan\u2019s Fiscal Year 2020 budget and will be presented to the Board of Public Works for final approval in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Allegany County<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Town of Luke Inclusive Nature Playground<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nature based inclusive playground with climbing equipment<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">$200,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Anne Arundel County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Ellen O.
