Events start in March and run through fall. Anyone 16 years of age and younger may participate.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor a lot of kids participating in a fishing rodeo, it is their first real angling experience,\u201d Fishing and Boating Services Director David Blazer said. \u201cThese events reflect a commitment across the state by the department, our partner organizations and many individuals to help youth develop a passion for fishing and for stewardship of our natural resources.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>To ensure participants have the opportunity to reel in a catch, the department helps raise and supply thousands of hybrid sunfish, channel catfish and rainbow trout for this year\u2019s fishing rodeos.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maryland\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/youth\/rodeo.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">youth fishing rodeo program<\/a> receives financial support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program.<\/p>\n<p>All youth fishing rodeo events are\u00a0free\u00a0and open to the public.
