{"id":24999,"date":"2018-10-25T10:15:59","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T14:15:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=24999"},"modified":"2018-10-25T10:18:17","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T14:18:17","slug":"maryland-environmental-trust-offers-volunteer-training-in-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/10\/25\/maryland-environmental-trust-offers-volunteer-training-in-november\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Environmental Trust Offers Volunteer Training in November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Opportunity to Help Statewide Conservation Efforts<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/1\/792\/40940274521_b590f1ab3b.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of conservation volunteer training with Maryland Environmental Trust\" width=\"351\" height=\"263\" \/>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/met\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Environmental Trust<\/a>\u00a0is offering one-day volunteer training sessions for individuals interested in helping to monitor state conservation easements.<\/p>\n<p>The sessions will be held 6 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 8, and 9:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 17 at the Howard County Conservancy (10520 Old Frederick Road,\u00a0Woodstock, Maryland).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Interested volunteers can register for the event\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScAGmN2wDfv-HUPJ5TiyT6XgE4aJdjpc1b5qITIuDFj-XG_pg\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trust, a unit of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>, works with land trusts and landowners to conserve, preserve and protect the state&#8217;s most treasured natural areas, farm and forest land, waterfronts, historic viewsheds and scenic landscapes as a legacy for future generations.\u00a0<span id=\"more-20722\"><\/span>To accomplish this, the trust recruits passionate volunteers who make annual visits to conservation easements to ensure they remain protected and undeveloped.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a great opportunity for those who want to do their part to conserve and protect Maryland&#8217;s beautiful natural resources,&#8221; Maryland Environmental Trust\u00a0Land Conservation Liaison Wendy Hershey said. &#8220;Volunteers have a chance to explore protected areas throughout the state while adding to their resumes, gaining service hours or simply getting some exercise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers must participate in the two-hour training and agree to complete five or more monitoring visits annually.
