As such, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0urges motorists to stay alert for deer and other wildlife this time of year as these animals seek food supplies and mates before winter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeer increase their movements significantly during the breeding season from mid-October through November as they search for mates,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/a>\u00a0Director Paul Peditto said. \u201cMotorists should be especially cautious from dusk to dawn when deer are most active and likely to be encountered on the road.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Motorists are reminded to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Be particularly attentive<\/strong>\u00a0in the early morning and evening periods.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gradually\u00a0brake<\/strong>\u00a0to avoid hitting a deer; do not swerve\u00a0as this may cause you to lose control of a vehicle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slow down<\/strong>\u00a0if a deer crosses the road ahead.\u00a0Deer often travel in groups and others may be nearby.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stay alert<\/strong>\u00a0and slowdown in areas where deer crossing signs are posted.\u00a0These indicate locations of frequent deer activity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Watch the shoulder.\u00a0<\/strong>Be alert for deer standing along the shoulder\u00a0as they\u00a0may suddenly move into the roadway.\u00a0Slow down and sound your horn to scare them away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wildlife More Active in Fall Cooling temperatures, colorful foliage\u00a0and unpredictable wildlife &#8211; all signs that the fall season is upon us in the Old Line State.
