{"id":24111,"date":"2018-09-25T09:00:20","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T13:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=24111"},"modified":"2018-09-25T19:43:48","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T23:43:48","slug":"tree-mendous-maryland-orders-being-accepted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/09\/25\/tree-mendous-maryland-orders-being-accepted\/","title":{"rendered":"Tree-Mendous Maryland Orders Being Accepted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Free Pickup Available at Several Sites in October<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4180\/33770315604_f042281bba.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of seedlings at Tree-Mendous Maryland nursery\" width=\"352\" height=\"264\" \/>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0aims to expand tree cover on public lands across the state by offering\u00a0affordable and attractive trees for planting on public\u00a0lands and open space through its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/treemendous\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tree-Mendous Maryland<\/a>\u00a0program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Church, civic, community and school groups, homeowners associations, local governments, nonprofits, and others are eligible to purchase shrubs and trees for planting on community and public lands. <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Documents\/Tree-Mendous_Fall-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Order today!<\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>\u201cAutumn is a great time to plant native species because shrubbery and trees can survive and thrive over the winter months,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Forest Service<\/a>\u00a0Director Don VanHassent said. \u201cThe department offers dozens of species of high quality, native shrubs and trees that meet any planting need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To save on delivery fees, communities and nonprofits that order now can also pickup their trees at several sites in October:<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/publiclands\/western_greenridgeforest.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Ridge State Forest<\/a>\u00a0Oct. 2;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/southern\/cedarville.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cedarville State Forest<\/a>\u00a0Oct. 4 or <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/southern\/cedarville.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tuckahoe State Park<\/a>\u00a0Oct. 11. Recipients can also pick their orders up at Clear Ridge Nursery in Carroll County, which grows and provides the trees, throughout the season.\u00a0All orders must be delivered or picked up by\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Dec. 15<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Since starting Tree-Mendous Maryland in 1989, the Maryland\u00a0Forest Service\u00a0has assisted more than 3,000 groups and organizations with tree plantings.
