{"id":23317,"date":"2018-07-31T10:00:40","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T14:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=23317"},"modified":"2018-07-31T10:47:09","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T14:47:09","slug":"conservation-jobs-corps-celebrates-graduation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/07\/31\/conservation-jobs-corps-celebrates-graduation\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservation Jobs Corps Celebrates Graduation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Program&#8217;s Largest Class Recognized for Public Service and Stewardship<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-23330\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/CJC-Grad-2-1024x603.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/CJC-Grad-2-1024x603.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/CJC-Grad-2-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/CJC-Grad-2-768x452.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>More than 400 young Marylanders celebrated their graduation from the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/cjc.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Conservation Jobs Corps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Friday after six weeks of job training, conservation education, hard work and fun. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The ceremony was held at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/central\/northpoint.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Point State Park<\/a>\u00a0in Baltimore County with <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> Secretary Mark Belton featured as the keynote speaker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not many teenagers get to be quite so immersed in conservation work as these young people<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,&#8221; Maryland Natural Resources Secretary Belton said. &#8220;<\/span>As the next generation of environmental stewards, a passion for protecting and preserving the natural world will follow these graduates wherever they may go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/2\/1808\/43127888732_0cd0285869_h.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"197\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Conservation Jobs Corps is a summer program that provides opportunities for students ages 14-17 to complete hands-on projects throughout the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Park Service<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They engage in tasks that benefit communities and public lands while learning about public service and stewardship. They also engage in exciting outdoor activities, including camping and wildlife observation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Under the leadership of park staff, 85 crews made history this summer with record-breaking participation and projects.
