{"id":22636,"date":"2018-06-27T09:00:23","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T13:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=22636"},"modified":"2018-07-11T09:12:34","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:12:34","slug":"glen-burnie-marina-certified-as-maryland-clean-marina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/06\/27\/glen-burnie-marina-certified-as-maryland-clean-marina\/","title":{"rendered":"Glen Burnie Marina Certified as Maryland Clean Marina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Nabbs Creek Marina Met Voluntary Criteria<\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 361px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/2\/1766\/43027394891_99662a09b2_o_d.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Patrick Riordan of Nabbs Creek Marina\" width=\"351\" height=\"246\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Patrick Riordan of Nabbs Creek Marina<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">An Anne Arundel County marina recently earned its <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Pages\/cleanmarina\/cmprogram.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Clean Marina Award<\/a> and certification following an inspection from the <a href=\"dnr.maryland.gov\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Nabbs Creek Marina in Glen Burnie met all the department&#8217;s environmental regulatory requirements as well as voluntary\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Documents\/checklist.pdf\">criteria<\/a>, bringing the total number of <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/boating\/Pages\/cleanmarina\/cleanmarinas.aspx\">clean marinas and partners<\/a> in the state to 149. Twenty-nine percent of Anne Arundel County marinas are certified as clean.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cIt is encouraging to see so many Maryland small businesses take up the mantle of a cleaner and healthier Chesapeake Bay,\u201d Program Manager Donna Morrow said. \u201cThese conservation-minded, environmentally-savvy managers and owners are better serving their customers while also doing their part to improve water quality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Participating boatyards, marinas and yacht clubs are evaluated on areas such emergency preparedness, stormwater management and waste containment and disposal. To pass, a facility must score between 75-85 percent in each area by implementing best practices found in the Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook.\u00a0Each clean marina is re-inspected every three years to ensure continued compliance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">At Nabbs Creek Marina, manager Patrick Riordan provides comingled recycling and posted new signs outlining dozens of ways boaters can prevent pollution while on board.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The Maryland Clean Marina Initiative was developed in 1998 by a committee of boatyard and marina operators and owners, state and local government agencies, academics, and boating representatives and stakeholders with the goal of reducing non-point source pollution from marine facilities and recreational boats.
