{"id":22622,"date":"2018-06-28T09:52:55","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T13:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=22622"},"modified":"2018-07-11T09:12:33","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:12:33","slug":"fishing-rod-loan-program-expanded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/06\/28\/fishing-rod-loan-program-expanded\/","title":{"rendered":"Fishing Rod Loan Program Expanded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i>Library<\/i><em>\u00a0Patrons Can Check Out Gear and Tackle in Four Counties<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22639 \" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/06\/Girl-Fishing-1024x711.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of girl fishing\" width=\"350\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/06\/Girl-Fishing-1024x711.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/06\/Girl-Fishing-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/06\/Girl-Fishing-768x533.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> has partnered with libraries in four counties to enable their patrons to borrow fishing gear free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/are.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aquatic Resources Education Program<\/a>\u00a0has provided five libraries in Anne Arundel, Carroll, Frederick and Harford counties with rods and reels, tackle, and fishing books, specifically geared toward children.<\/p>\n<p>The following libraries are currently participating in the department program:\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eastport-Annapolis Neck Community Library and Mountain Road Community Library in Anne Arundel County;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Westminster Branch Library in Carroll County;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brunswick Branch Library in Frederick County; and Joppa Branch Library in Harford County.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This program is an exciting new way to equip families with the tools and knowledge they need to enjoy a day of fishing in our cherished waterways,&#8221;\u00a0Maryland Natural Resources\u00a0Secretary Mark Belton said. &#8220;By engaging the next generation of anglers, we can foster a passion for outdoor recreation and sports, and cultivate an appreciation and love of nature that will last a lifetime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The success of a 2017 pilot program at Mountain Road Community Library in Anne Arundel County prompted the department to expand the program to four additional libraries, which are all in close proximity to public fishing areas.
