{"id":22444,"date":"2018-06-20T11:00:56","date_gmt":"2018-06-20T15:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=22444"},"modified":"2018-07-11T09:12:36","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:12:36","slug":"baltimore-city-awarded-380000-for-stormwater-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/06\/20\/baltimore-city-awarded-380000-for-stormwater-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Baltimore City Awarded $380,000 for Stormwater Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Funding for Bioretention Areas, Pervious Surface and Tree Plantings <\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/4\/3801\/12003562474_1be58819ba_b_d.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of a Baltimore City tree planting\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/>The Board of Public Works unanimously approved a <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> item that grants $380,000 in general obligation bond proceeds to Baltimore City for the installation of stormwater management facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with local communities and partners, the department identifies and prioritizes projects aimed at accelerating Chesapeake Bay restoration in the most cost-effective and efficient manner, enhancing water quality while reducing overall costs,\u201d Maryland Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. \u201cWe are leveraging existing state funds for the completion of these two Baltimore City projects, which were selected due to their strong local support and impact on the bay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The two projects are:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Druid Heights Community Development Corporation<br \/>\n<\/strong>Jones Falls\/Patapsco River<br \/>\n$200,000<br \/>\nAs part of a larger neighborhood and revitalization effort, funding will convert a 3,600-square foot vacant lot into an environmental enhancement that will include three stormwater bioretention areas, pervious surfacing and the planting of 10 trees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Parks and People Foundation<br \/>\n<\/strong>Baltimore Harbor\u00a0<br \/>\n$180,000<br \/>\nAs part of a larger park revitalization project, funding will install four stormwater bioretention areas, 5,000-square feet of pervious surface, remediate 11,500-square feet of soil and the planting of 20 trees.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the two projects would come through the department&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/funding\/trust-fund.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund<\/a> as well as the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development\u2019s Community Legacy Program, Project C.O.R.E.
