{"id":22203,"date":"2018-06-05T12:00:28","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T16:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=22203"},"modified":"2018-07-11T09:12:48","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:12:48","slug":"maryland-conservation-corps-now-recruiting-young-adults","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/06\/05\/maryland-conservation-corps-now-recruiting-young-adults\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Conservation Corps Now Recruiting Young Adults"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Award-Winning Program Provides Practical Experience and Skills Training<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/1\/489\/32039777446_2bd0469718_b_d.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Maryland Conservation Corps Members\" width=\"359\" height=\"229\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> is now <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/mcc_application.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruiting<\/a>\u00a0members for the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/pages\/mcc.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Conservation Corps<\/a>, an award-winning AmeriCorps program that engages young adults aged 17-25 in extensive conservation, environmental and natural resources management projects across the state.<\/p>\n<p>The department seeks to hire 35 full-time members who will work on five to seven teams for an 11-month period, beginning in September 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In an average year, Maryland Conservation Corps members will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct interpretive state park programming<\/li>\n<li>Help preserve rich historical heritage sites<\/li>\n<li>Improve park nature centers<\/li>\n<li>Maintain hundreds of miles of trails<\/li>\n<li>Plant thousands of trees<\/li>\n<li>Provide environmental education programming for Maryland students<\/li>\n<li>Restore wildlife habitat<\/li>\n<li>Support the improvement of the Chesapeake and coastal bays<\/li>\n<li>Work with schools to plant bay grasses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Maryland Conservation Corps provides young adults with a meaningful opportunity to gain experience in environmental science and natural resource conservation,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Park Service<\/a> Superintendent Nita Settina said. \u201cFrom aquatic systems and public lands management, the program offers hands-on, real-world experience in a team-based environment that supports community service and conservation stewardship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To be considered, interested individuals must submit an online\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/mcc_application.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">application<\/a>.
