{"id":21684,"date":"2018-05-09T13:33:56","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T17:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=21684"},"modified":"2018-07-11T09:13:09","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:13:09","slug":"fort-frederick-rallies-troops-to-garrison-the-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/05\/09\/fort-frederick-rallies-troops-to-garrison-the-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Frederick Rallies Troops To Garrison the Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Historic Reenactments May 12-13<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"http:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/1\/530\/19127504473_afd7ce3ca8.jpg\" alt=\"Historic Reenactors Dressed as Troops Demonstrate Firing Weapons\" width=\"350\" height=\"239\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Living historians will occupy and re-enact daily life at the centuries-old fort on the grounds of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/western\/fortfrederick.aspx\">Fort Frederick State Park<\/a>\u00a0May 12-13 and the public is invited to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Activities will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer re-enactors will demonstrate how the military encampment was established\u00a0and operated, also known as\u00a0garrisoning, when Fort Frederick was an important\u00a0military stronghold during the French and Indian War.\u00a0Events will include musket firing presentations, hearth cooking, artillery demonstrations and military drills.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Both days begin with a flag raising ceremony over the historic fort, which was built in 1756.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPark visitors joining us as we garrison the fort will participate in activities common for that time and experience what day-to-day living was like then and there,\u201d Park Ranger Bob Study said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will pay a service charge of $3 for residents and $5 for nonresidents. Visitors should also be advised that disabled access is available, although most of the activities are on grassy areas.
